The Goat Rodeo Sessions by Yo-Yo Ma, Stuart Duncan, Edgar Meyer, and Chris Thile
Last one. And yes, I know it's a little late. I've been busy!
I'll keep it short:
"Attaboy" : Bluegrassy and classy.
"Quarter Chicken Dark" : Hip hop meets an almost-string quartet.
"Helping Hand" : Bruce Hornsby meets Nickel Creek.
"Where's My Bow" : Chris Thile meets Tim Burton.
"Here and Heaven" : Wait, this isn't Nickel Creek?
"Franz and the Eagle" : Debussy's favorite use of mandolin.
"Less is Moi" : Who says strings don't do mixed meters?!
"Hill Justice" : Ah, back to Appalachia. Mostly.
"No One But You" : Haunting.
"13:8" : The closest prog will come to bluegrass.
"Goat Rodeo" : Just funky, stringy, bluesy, goodness.
For those of you who are unfamiliar, this album was an awesome effort by some of the most accomplished musicians in their respective fields. Just a home run of an album that explores a variety of styles and fully involves the abilities of everyone present. Definitely a great way to end the awesome year that was 2014. That's all for this blog ladies and gentlemen. As always, give it a listen!
